Generation 01, Chapter 02: He Asks Her

I've put away the last dish from the dish drain into the cupboard and Adam is standing nervously next to me.  I can practically feel his uneasiness permeating from him.  It causes me to sweat when I ask him what's up.

"Oh nothing," he lies.  Fortunately, he's obviously not a good liar and I slap him with a dish towel.

"Adam," I command, "Tell me.  I know something's up so spill the beans. You're worrying me."

"Actually, I have to go to the bathroom, could you, could you meet me upstairs?"

I stare at him but grudgingly agree and I trudge upstairs, listening for the flush of his eco-friendly dual flush toilet (flush up for liquid wastes and down for solid wastes). 

I walk into Adam's bedroom and notice that it's not as crisp and clean as it usually is.  The bed isn't made which means that he is probably nervous or his mind is occupied and has been occupied since this morning.  I also see the lovely purple flowers that Adam gave me oh so long ago.  They're a brilliant shade of purple and I brought those flowers over instead of the other two bouquets I received from Simon and Luke.  It seemed... inappropriate at this point so I'm going to leave them at my house.

Yu may be wondering about the cats, they will be coming later.  I'm still adjusting to life at Adam's and we're slowly trying to figure out how to incorporate my possessions with his.  Of course, most of my stuff will stay at my house or put into storage since his house is so small.

Anyway, a few minutes later I hear him coming up the stairs.  I start to sweat again.  What's he so nervous about?  He couldn't possibly break up with me so soon?  Could he?

He comes to stand next to me.  I can feel his hand shaking as he takes mine in his.

"Adam-"

Adam interrupts me by clearing his throat.  "Calista," he begins, his voice wavering, "Ever since I met you, I knew you were the one.  I knew that I had to have you.  Although I seemed antisocial at first, I was ecstatic when you agreed to go on that first date with me.  But damn, I was as nervous as hell.  In fact, I'm pretty nervous right now."

Adam gets down on one knee and pulls something from his pocket.

No.  This can't be happening.  Is he-?

He opens a small, dark, velvet box and inside is a beautiful glimmering ring.

"Calista Katherine Smith, I love you with all of my heart, and I know I will continue to love you forever and ever.  Will you do the honor of being my wife?"

I'm speechless.  I mean, I've always anticipated and dreamed of this moment but never did I imagine this moment coming to life.  And now, it's a reality.  It's right in front of me.

"Yes," I say softly.  "Yes, yes, YES!"

My mind is whirling with thoughts.

Calista Katherine Cohen.  

Mrs. Cohen.  

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Cohen.  

Adam slips the ring onto my finger and his smile is bigger than ever as he gazes up at me.  

I can't help but gawk at its beauty and at my adorable fiancé.

I also can't believe that I, Calista Smith, am now engaged to the most wonderful man in the world.

NOTE

Sorry about all of the editing on the pictures (some of them are a bit overdone).  Recently I've been in the mood to edit and so I decided to take advantage of that rare mood (because I rarely have the patience to edit photos) and then I got a bit carried away.  Also, I've always wanted to write a post where I edit every picture and this one was short so I thought this one would be a good one to fulfill my wish.

Oh, one thing, I'm kind of liking the extra large pictures and I might do that with all of my posts.  I've never really liked the smaller sizes... plus, it looks okay when rectangular pictures are large because they're not too overbearing and they sort of look good when they fit the length of the text.  Just sayin'.
